Programme Philosophy

“Innovative Design for Sustainable Development”

Focusing on urban design, the program is the disciplinary integration of various sciences namely design, science and technology, art and culture, management and development science.  The program is in response of rapid changes in modern society and urban growth and community in order to create environment favorable to good quality of life for the people.  It is also in harmony with the nation’s higher education development plan and philosophy to create graduates of virtue and ethics with ability and potential to create urban community design work in conformity with international professional standards taking into account social duties and responsibility.

Objectives

It is anticipated that the programme graduates will

  1. Have sufficient knowledge, ability, and creativity to join urban design profession or its related fields;
  2. Have sufficient ability and wide knowledge base to develop for specialization in urban development related disciplines for master’s degree studies;
  3. Be readily able to advance further to become leaders in urban design related professions with virtue and ethics for the benefits of the profession and with the responsibility for the nation’s development.

To complete the programme, students are required to take course registration for not less than 135 credits fully in compliance with the prog ramme structural requirements as follows:

Credit Requirements:

Courses for general studies 30  
Courses for specific studies 99  
Courses for basic studies 18  
Cluster of urban design courses 45 divided into
36 credits for cluster of urban design theory courses, and
9  credits for cluster of urban design practice courses
Cluster of technologies courses 12 credits
Cluster of urban design supporting courses 18 credits
Cluster of elective courses  6 credits
Free electives  6 credits
Total credit requirements for program completion 135 credits
